There is still an option for possible insurance coverage through something called a superbill.
A superbill is a document used in medical practices, including those of Registered Dietitians, to provide detailed information about services rendered during a patient's visit. It serves as an itemized invoice or receipt that patients can use to seek reimbursement from their insurance company or for personal records.
Superbills are especially useful for patients who pay for services out-of-pocket or who have insurance plans with out-of-network benefits. Patients can submit the superbill to their insurance company to request reimbursement for covered services.
Reimbursement is not always guaranteed and will depend on the coverage provided by your insurance company for out-of-network services.
If a referral is required, this will be provided to you following your initial consultation call. We recommend calling the phone number listed on the back of your insurance card for more information regarding coverage of nutrition counseling services.
Registered Dietitian services are typically considered qualified medical expenses that can be paid for using funds from an HSA. This includes nutrition counseling and therapy services provided by a licensed RD to treat a specific medical condition diagnosed by a physician, such as obesity, diabetes, or heart disease.
Registered Dietitian services are generally eligible expenses that can be reimbursed through an FSA. However, it's important to check with your FSA administrator or review your plan documents to confirm coverage and any specific requirements or limitations.
When using either an HSA or FSA to pay for Registered Dietitian services, it's important to keep detailed records of your expenses, including receipts or invoices from the RD, as well as any documentation supporting the medical necessity of the services provided. Additionally, it's advisable to consult with your healthcare provider or insurance administrator to ensure that the services you're seeking are eligible for reimbursement under your specific plan.
